Ottawa area House explosion

October 4, 2006 -   CBC Radio One - Ontario Today, current affairs radio progam.  Alrek Meipoom RHI speaks with Rita Celli about the recent house explosion in the Vankleek Hill neighborhood and what home owners should know about their gas furnaces.

Alrek spoke on the importance of maintenance; having a CAHPI-Ontario inspector perform a pre-purchase inspection and inspecting and cleaning your heating system on an annual basis.

A home inspector is an impartial observer who will inform and educate you on how the systems of your home function and what you need to do to maintain them.

 

2006 Ontario Home Inspectors elections

February 25, 2006 - Kingston, Ontario.  Alrek Meipoom re-elected for a third term as President of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors.  At the 2006 Annual General Meeting – the voting membership re-elected Alrek to return as a director and President. 

OAHI presents to Chinese Delegation from Ministry of Construction.

 

June 6, 2005 Ontario Association of Home Inspectors invited to present to visiting Chinese delegation from the Ministry of Construction (MOC).  Andrew Dixon, Director of External Relations, Glenn Gogal and Alrek Meipoom, President of the OAHI attended the morning meeting.

 

The delegation of 16 officials from MOC and its provincial branches were visiting Canada on a two week to study the regulation and management practice related to the construction quality and safety in Canada.  The delegation was interested in discussing cooperation with Canadian counterparts in the areas of professional training and technical consultancy.  While in Canada the delegation was to visit a number of Federal, provincial and municipal government agencies, institutions and companies that are involved in the development and implementation of construction quality and safety measures.

 

Alrek Meipoom presented the role of home inspectors in the marketplace, the services and benefits they offer. The process of inspecting new and existing housing, the standards of practice and standard of care. An outline of the education and accreditation process for membership and on going quality management through code of ethics, education and discipline processes.

 

The visiting delegation was very interested in the private sector approach to quality management of housing stock.  A relationship of future co-operation was developed.

 Hot Property

 Alrek Meipoom, Home Inspector co- host of the North American version of a British hit show “Hot Property”. 

 

First-time buyers will be shown three homes for sale.  A Realtor will describe the features of the house and neighborhood, while the home inspector will tell them the technical aspects of the houses.

 

They’ll pick their favorite and use their skill and judgment to guess the selling price. If their estimate is correct they’ll win the property on offer!  [Program pilot produced – pending] Feb 2004
